Why see a Doula?

Between 2019 and 2021, California saw 226 pregnancy-related deaths out of 1.28 million births. For Black women, the toll was especially devastating—nearly 50 deaths for every 100,000 births, compared to 17.3 for Latinas, 14.4 for Asians, and 14.0 for Whites. Out of all babies born in California, 40% are covered by Medi-Cal. Yet, pregnancy-related deaths are 2.7 times higher. These are not just numbers. These are mothers—and sometimes their children. Research shows that people with a doula are less likely to have a cesarean birth, shorter labors, and pain medication. They’re also four times less likely to have a baby with low birth weight, two times less likely to face birth complications, and more likely to start breastfeeding successfully. A doula provides non-medical support to birthing parents, specifically providing emotional support, patient advocacy, physical comfort measures, and helpful information about childbirth options. A doula can give you the extra support, guidance, and confidence you deserve during pregnancy, birth, and after your baby arrives. The best time to hire a doula is when you know you’re pregnant. The doula will help you prepare for the life ahead, answering questions, and guide you every step of the way. But it’s never too late—whether you’re early in pregnancy, just a few weeks from your due date, or already in labor, having a doula by your side can make a positive difference for you and your baby. Our doula is Dr. Rae, a Public Health Doctor and DONA International-trained Doula who is dedicated to improving material health outcomes. She volunteers at UC Davis Medical Center as a birth doula for high-risk pregnancies. She knows how much of a difference having the right support can make. That's why she started this private practice. Whether it’s your first pregnancy or you’ve been here before, Dr. Rae is here for you. Whether you live in a busy city or a rural community, let’s make sure you have a safe pregnancy and healthy start for your baby. Appointments are held via telehealth so we can reach everyone. Like all doctor offices, our office is HIPAA compliant so you can trust us with your personal information and birth journey experience. If your health insurance covers doula services, we are happy to see you. Medi-Cal covers our services in full. 👉🏻👉🏼👉🏽👉🏾👉🏿 REQUEST YOUR VIRTUAL APPOINTMENT ABOVE! 👈🏿👈🏾👈🏽👈🏼👈🏻 Use your phone or computer to complete new client paperwork and attend your telehealth visits!
